ACTUARIAL(1)
ACTUARIAL OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN
The responsibilities of the Actuarial Operations Technician include:
- Maintaining and making improvements to our existing actuarial models
- Assisting in the production of benchmark classification analyses
- Recommending loss development factors, performing technical reviews of the quarterly reserve analyses, and providing pricing support to assigned territories
- Ensuring that benchmark model input data and pattern files are kept current
- Providing preliminary support for all benchmark state analyses
- Updating critical values prior to benchmark model account testing
- Preparing benchmark analyses for prescribed states to ensure that the most recent trends are being reflected in our pricing analyses
- Aiding Account Managers in explaining changes to consulting customers
- Working with IT programmers to ensure updates to benchmarking models are tested sufficiently to reduce or eliminate errors
- Providing assistance on actuarial projects that will enhance the efficiency and reliability of MECC models
- Working as a team player to review all necessary actuarial reserving reports
- Pricing (during peak pricing periods only; 100% of time)
- Early identification of data issues on individual accounts
- Coordinating pursuit of data issues with team members based on requests and data priority
- Providing timely and thorough account-specific exposure, loss and patterns files to team members
The knowledge and skills required are:
- Bachelors degree-preferably in mathematics, statistics or actuarial science
- One to three actuarial exams completed (preferred). We offer a competitive Actuarial Study Program
- Basic verbal and written communication skills relative to conveying actuarial concepts/issues in understandable terms
- Intermediate knowledge of insurance/consulting products and services
- Understanding of benchmarking and pricing models
- Intermediate knowledge of the workers’ compensation systems (benefit levels, adjudication issues, reforms, etc.)
- Advanced MS Excel - ability to understand formulas, macros and write Visual Basic (VBA) code to automate spreadsheet processes
- Intermediate LotusNotes, MS Access, PowerPoint and Word
CLAIMS(1)
SENIOR CLAIMS ANALYST
The responsibilities of the Senior Claims Analyst include:
- The handling of claims assigned with potential excess exposure and the development of a relationship with the claim administration community to ensure performance of an acceptable standard.
- Maintains an effective and current diary system to direct all assigned claims.
- Requests authority to settle when a settlement opportunity is identified
- Reviews and authorizes reimbursements within assigned authority level
- Plans and conducts audit/TPA visits when required
- Supports growth and retention of business accounts
The knowledge and skills required are:
- Bachelor's in general studies, liberal arts or business
- CPCU and AIC credentials preferred
- Knowledge of industry accepted claim handling standards
- Advanced Business writing, verbal communication, time management, and customer service skills Intermediate presentation and Project manager skills; beginner supervisory skills
- Ability to prioritize and organize
- Ability to analyze and provide solutions to problems using accepted management techniques and negotiate a win-win strategy
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with management, peers, direct reports and individuals inside and outside the company
- Audit a workers compensation claims program and draw conclusions about their ability to achieve best practice
- Identify potential exposure during a routine audit review
- Conduct an effective objective, objection or needs assessment
- Develop and maintain skills in all company designated software programs like Excel, Word and Lotus Notes Cross-Discipline Scoring and Oracle Discoverer preferred
- 30-40% travel is required
