Project Backpack provides area police departments, social service agencies, domestic violence shelters and Department of Family Services workers with backpacks filled with the necessities and comfort items. These filled backpacks are delivered to children in crisis on the scene at the moment they are needed. The backpacks are a powerful tool to help these professionals ease the trauma for children who are transitioning to a safe environment. Project Backpack serves children in crisis in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County. It is operated entirely by volunteers, and all donations are used to help the children they serve.
Midwest Employers Casualty provided over 250 new backpacks filled with a variety of toys, diapers, books, and clothing items valued at well over $1,500. MECC employees joined the Backpack Brigade, volunteering to pack the backpacks.
"Midwest Employers Casualty delivered one of the largest donations of items that Project Backpack has ever received. There are truly no words that adequately express our feelings to all who participated in this incredible event, but know that from the bottom of our hearts we at Project Backpack thank them for all that they have contributed to help us continue to serve these children as they go from a crisis situation to a safer environment. Midwest Employers Casualty has made a difference in their lives by letting them know that someone cares."
